"Isabel Lawson is standing on the balcony of her suite at the H©þtel Crillon as she gazes at the twinkling lights of the Champs-©‰lys©♭es and wonders if she's made a terrible mistake. She was supposed to be visiting the Christmas tree in the Place de la Concorde, and eating escargots and macarons with her new husband on their honeymoon. But a week before the wedding, she called it off. Isabel is an ambitious Philadelphia finance woman, and Neil suddenly decided to take over his grandparents' farm. Isabel wasn't ready to trade her briefcase for a pair of rubber boots and a saddle. When Neil suggested she use their honeymoon tickets for herself, she thought it would give her a chance to clear her head"-- Provided by publisher.

I feel like I have actually travelled to Paris after this novel but must admit I haven't a clue about half of what they ate at the cafes and fancy restaurants. I didn't really follow the character plot of Isabel as it was so unbelievable. A tight, rigid financial analyst throws all caution and logic (which is her entire character) to the wind based on a random fortune teller. I guess we are supposed to believe love, or the search of love, does make us lose our head and the author did do a good job convincing us of that. There was enough magic and Paris scenery to make me read this again.

I didn't think this was a successful novel because there's no realistic character development. The prose is lacking in depth and the dialogue is stilted and childlike (it sounds like Isabel is a tour guide the way she peppers every conversation with Parisian facts). I think there are better Christmas romances.

A perfect Christmas romance! After calling off her wedding, Isabel decides to embark on a honeymoon for one in Paris. When she meets a mysterious fortune teller, whose every prediction comes true, Isabel finally believes she will find everlasting love and live the kind of life she's always dreamed of. Or will she miss what is right in front of her and make the wrong decision yet again? Anything is possible in the La Ville Lumiere.
