Thoroughly enjoyed this first of Crombie's Kincaid and James series. Kincaid tries to take a vacation, he really does, but foul play dogs him even to a time-share. More than one person end up in danger and with the local police being rather prickly, Kincaid's trying to solve the case without actually being on the case. His police partner, Gemma James, takes a break from her 'vacation' of staying home and doing laundry to help Kincaid with some background work and interviews. She shows up at the time-share just in time to help capture the culprit.

This first novel in the Kincaid & James series follows all the rules of the mystery genre. The violence is behind the scene and the language would be considered clean.
