Locke and Key: clockworks (volume 5 of its series) is one of the strangest graphic novels you will ever read. The premise of the series is that a long time ago, keys were made that have magical powers. The keys are made from the metal created when demons tried to escape from behind the "black door", but could not do so without a human host. Looking into or going into the black door causes one to become possessed by one of the demons, killing every living thing they see. Going back in time, opening your head, and the changing into an animal are all powers the keys posses. Seems innocent enough, but this story is far from it. Left and right there is swearing, death and destruction. This is definitely not a series for young children! Before you start reading, you should know that in this volume the short haired child is possessed by the bad guy. I sadly haven't read the other parts of the series so I didn't know until I read the back of the book! The main story takes place in and focuses on the lives a group of teenagers who own the aforementioned keys and a few other interesting devices, such as working wings. They use these to preform an amazing Tempest play! The group decides to open the black door to get more metal to make a "glamour key". A key that would make people look at them like they did while they were on stage. Though I suggest looking up or reading the other four books in the series first, Locke and Key, Clockwork is a fascinating read.
