I do not understand how this movie got nominated for an Oscar. The story made not much sense. We turned it off part way through.

A great idea packaged in an unfinished script. You may the remember the scandal when Once was announced; Tarantino's making a movie about Manson and Sharon Tate! It's sure to be a exploitative docudrama -- as if they didn't know he makes unconventional movies. But then, under some pressure, Tarantino began working with Tate's family, and it's my impression he made some changes. The result is a collection of sometimes brilliant scenes, but the story hangs together by a thread. I can only guess that because it was written by a prestigious director like Tarantino, the producers said screw it, let's go ahead. If you've seen and like other Tarantino movies you'll like this one, too. But I'm glad it only one Best Supporting Actor and Production Design at the Academy Awards, because it's not his best work.

ghoulish and pointless - tho I guess you can still make money out of Sharon Tate. For every starlet in Hollywood there are 3 pimps and Tarantino is just one more. All that kitsch gives a viewer no real sense of the time period - are all Tarantino's movies just a filmic Trivial Pursuit? Another dose of the old ultra-violence but now its ok because the "good guys" are at it. I think I'm reacting to the over-hype more - and the absolute emptiness at the core of this flick.

My wife and I agree that this drivel was one of the worst movies we have ever waded through. It just rambled on and on and on for no reason other than name-dropping.....making stuff up as it went. And what was with that terrible impersonation of Steve McQueen at the Playboy mansion? That was just wrong.
Oscar nominated? Wow, doesn't that show how low the Oscars have sunk over the years.
Loved that red MGTD though. The MG and the hitching hippie girl were the only redeeming bits of the movie.

This movie is a blast! Everyone is great in it but Brad Pitt owns it. The scene with Bruce Lee makes the movie. More in the spirit of Jackie Brown than Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs.

Je ne suis pas un fan de Quentin Tarantino et ce n'est pas ce film qui va faire changer d'avis à son sujet. Malgré le jeu des acteurs et la reconstitution d'époque, ce film reste une coquille vide.

Complete waste of time. Acting is fine. Plot is zero

A Tarantino masterpiece. Pitt and DiCaprio give some of their best acting.
If you weren't around in the 60s you probably will find it a little confusing
to follow the dual story line.
A brilliant smashing ending.

46 quotes posted in IMDb already. Thanks to its contributors. The best lines come from the brilliant little woman Trudi Fraser (Julia Butters):

I believe it's the job of an actor - and I say actor, not actress because the word actress is nonsensical - it's the actor's job to avoid impediments to their performance. It's the actor's job to strive for one hundred percent effectiveness. Naturally, we never succeed, but it's the pursuit..that's meaningful.

That was the best acting I've ever seen in my whole life.
-Thank you.

I don't like names like 'Pumpkin Puss'... but since you're upset, we'll talk about it some other time.

***If you want more of the wise-beyond-her-years Trudi, watch one of the deleted scenes when Trudi welcomes her two step-brothers (Timothy Olyphant as James Stacy and Luke Perry as Wayne Maunder) who have just ridden in town from a wagon.
