By far, this is the strangest book I have ever read. I can't even place it in a particular genre. It pulls from so many. More in line with H.P. Lovecraft or E.A. Poe than modern story tellers, it often leaves things to the reader's imagination. This book is not an easy read. A narrative of a narrative of a series of documented events, containing footnotes, and footnotes of footnotes, often by one author, but sometimes by more than one, sometimes coherent, but mostly rambling in long run on sentences, separated by comma after comma, not unlike this sentence, often going for paragraphs, sometimes for entire pages at a time, some of it written upside down, sometimes backwards, some in code. I needed a dictionary in more than a couple of spots too. All said, I didn't really put this book down for 3 days. It sucked me in.
